- February 19, 2026 - Disaster - Allan Line iron steamship SS Hungarian from Liverpool wrecked on Cape Ledge, the west side of Cape Sable; flares from the steamer will be sighted at about three in the morning of February 20, and fishermen will see people clinging to Hungarian's masts at daybreak but seas were too high to render aid; all 205 people aboard will be lost. - February 19, 2026 - North West Rebellion - Gabriel Dumont pardoned by the Crown for role in 1885 Rebellion; Saskatchewan Métis leader was Louis Riel's adjutant-general; had fled to the US when he heard Riel had surrendered; 1886 on hearing of Riel's execution he joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show as a crack marksman; 1888 returned to Canada after the amnesty for rebels; 1893 returned to Batoche; will leave two oral memoirs of the rebellion.
